Tom on the Plinth
Unlocking Captive
Voices – transforming crime into art.

On Saturday 3rd October 2009 Tom Magill, co-founder of the Educational Shakespeare Company Ltd will be on the plinth from 6-7pm in Trafalgar Square, London as part of Antony Gormley’s groundbreaking One and Other exhibition.
Tom’s one hour will be filled with visual and aural material
spelling out ESC’s aim – Creating Radical Transformation.
Accompanying the visuals will be a sound track featuring both prisoners and ex-prisoners who have engaged in drama and film work with Tom over the years. These are unique voices with honest, compelling stories that are seldom expressed and need to be heard.
How ESC empowers people to create radical transformation in their own lives is by providing a safe place for people to share their stories without judgement. This process creates solidarity and understanding. The group then help each other to transform their stories into works of art in drama and film. When people see their own lives on screen it produces insights that often lead to understanding and acceptance. This creative expression is a necessary step in the path to their recovery.
To get a flavour of ESC’s work you can watch Tom at www.oneandother.co.uk live on Saturday or after the event. Just search Plinthers for Tom’s timeslot – Sat 3rd Oct at 6pm.
